Ramadan is the holliest month to muslims all around the world.  We only know how hard it is to fast especially when we are not back in our home country! I wanted to share with you a few tips on how to stay healthy during this month.

1) Try to stay indoors as much as possible during the fasting hours, especially during the summer time.

2) When it’s time to break the fast, it is wiser to start off with a soup. I know this might be hard, considering the fact that you have not been eating the whole day and you might be starving but the soup warms up your stomach before actually consuming solid food.

3) Try to avoid over eating. It is best to break the fast with something small and eat small portion throughout the rest of the night.

4) I highly suggest eating a lot of foods that contain water in them, such as soups, vegetables, salads and so on. This will help hydrate your body especially if you are the type of person who cannot drink a lot of water. This will also help you from getting headaches during the day.

5) It is very advisable to go for a small walk two hours after iftaar. Due to the fact that you are only eating at night and are not moving much, some people tend gain weight.

6) Some individuals sleep a lot all day, I think this is a horrible thing to do because the lack of sun could lead to feeling weakness and slight depression. Could you imagine not seeing the sun at all for a whole month? I couldn’t! Plus the whole purpose of this month is to actually feel the hunger and thirst!

7) Find distraction! Whether it’s a movie, games, literature, blogging, anything! Find something you are passionate about and it will definitely kill some time. This is a great month to sit and reflect about what you like to do, and who knows, you might reveal new talents.

8) For Sehour time (The last meal) avoid eating anything too salty. This could lead to major thirst (Trust me I know this) Instead look for meals that are very filling but that doesn’t contain a lot of salt. So no pizza, sushi or any of that sort!

9)  Avoid stress! That’s right, think of this time of year as a mini vacation where you should be stress free.

10) Make sure you plan your schedule properly so that you get enough sleep (7-8 hours minimum)
